Choo followed up an excellent opening 69 with a 72 at the par-71 Serapong Course for a 36-hole total of one-under-par 141, while Yap settled for runner-up honours on even-par 142 after rounds of 70 and 72. Koh Dengshan and Abdul Hadi Uda Thith tied for third on 143.

“I am really happy with the win today and overall for the first leg of the Singapore Pro Series Invitational presented by FTAG. I have put in two very solid rounds and am pleased that my fitness regime and practice over the last few months have come to fruition,” said the 34-year-old Choo, who picked up a cheque for S$3,000.

A total of eight legs are scheduled for the series, which sees touring professionals of both genders as well as leading amateurs competing over two days for a S$10,600 prize fund. Choo now leads the ‘Race to FTAG Cup’, as the Order of Merit is known, where the top player at the end of the season receives a S$10,000 bonus.

Jerome Ng, general manager of the Singapore Golf Association, noted: “We are pleased to kick start the first leg of the Singapore Pro Series Invitational presented by FTAG at the Sentosa Golf Club. It is great to see the amateur and professional golfers test their nerves to compete for the winning prize. These events will prepare them for their tour events and major games to come. Congratulations to Choo and we look forward to the many legs to come.”

The second leg takes place on May 3-4 at Tanah Merah Country Club.
