Collin Morikawa is starting to get more comfortable on tour … which is not surprising given that the 23-year-old Californian just won his second PGA Tour title on Sunday in the Workday Charity Open.

“You know, it’s not a surprise. It’s just a lot of belief in myself that I could do this. Comfortable I think is the best word for a lot of these guys out here because they’ve been out here for many years. They’ve been out here, they know the courses, they know where to hit it, and for me it’s getting as comfortable as I can as quickly as I can,” said Morikawa, who edged Justin Thomas on the third playoff hole at Muirfield Village.

Morikawa became only the second player after Tiger Woods in the last 30 years to claim his second PGA Tour victory before missing his second cut. This was Morikawa’s second playoff since the PGA Tour’s return last month, the other coming in the first event of the restart, the Charles Schwab Challenge, where he lost to Danial Berger on the first extra hole.

“Last summer was all about earning status, getting on the PGA Tour, doing something in that manner, get to finals, whatever it was.

“This year, I set new goals with my coach at the beginning of the year to kind of look back at what we did great last year. This is going to be my first full season this year, and what we can do,” noted Morikawa, who now has two wins and two runner-up finishes in 26 PGA Tour starts (24 as a professional).

Before joining the paid ranks last June, Morikawa enjoyed a glittering collegiate career with the University of California-Berkeley and was the top-ranked amateur in the world for three weeks in May 2018.

Morikawa will have a chance for a second win at Muirfield Village in this week’s Memorial Tournament. He is paired for the first two rounds with the last two winners of the Memorial, Patrick Cantlay (2019) and Bryson DeChambeau (2018).
