The pathway towards securing playing opportunities in China is back with the staging of the second EFG-CLPGQ series confirmed for September 16 and 17 at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club.
Open to female professionals, female amateurs, and male amateurs aged 16 years and above, the two-day event will also allow players under 16 years old to compete under exemption status.
Held as part of a four-part competitive event where the handicap index for amateurs is seven and under, the EFG-CLPGQ series is a platform for golf professionals and young amateur golfers from around the world to make their breakthrough.
It offers a S$10,000 prize money to the top 10 players and ties, including amateurs. They will also have the opportunity to earn valuable World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points. With live streaming available via the CLPGQ Series app, US college coaches can also track players’ performances, opening doors for potential recruitment opportunities.
Inaugurated in 2020, the CLPG Q Series is a development circuit that serves as the qualifying pathway to the flagship CLPG Tour where former world No.1 and major winner Yin Ruoning, won her first three tournaments as a professional at CLPGA Tour events.
Other CLPGA Tour alumni include Liu Yu who competes on the US LPGA Tour, Shi Yuting, a winner on the Japan LPGA Tour and Zeng Liqi, a four-time champion in China.
Hong Kong China’s Arianna Lau clinched the first leg of the EFG Bank CLPGQ Singapore Series in May—which had served as the qualifier for the Singapore Ladies Masters in June— with a commanding five-shot victory,
The 54-hole tournament will accommodate a field of up to 72 players, with a maximum of 18 participants from Mainland China. Three spots, with one reserved for a Singaporean competitor, will be offered to the top three qualifiers.
Participants will have to play a gruelling 36-hole golf marathon on the first day, with only the top 50 players and ties advancing to the third and final round.
