Gavin Green had a disappointing start to his 2021 European Tour campaign when the Malaysian No 1 narrowly missed the halfway cut in the US$8 million Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
Gavin carded rounds of 74 and 70 for a 36-hole total of even-par 144 at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, missing out on progressing to the money rounds by just one shot. He had to complete eight holes of his second round this morning due to a fog delay on the first day. In last year’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, Gavin finished T21 at the same venue.
The long-hitting 27-year-old will be keen to make amends in next week’s US$3.25 million Omega Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club, where he mustered a T27 performance in the last edition.
This is Gavin’s fourth straight season on the European Tour and follows a successful 2020 campaign, where he finished a career high 52nd on the Race to To Dubai rankings and made it to the season-ending DP World Tour Championship for the first time.
