Sohniya Chandra Mohan and Nazran Shahrizan

The 3rd Junior Open Golf Championship unfolded at the Palm Resort Golf & Country Club from 20th to 22nd December where a record-breaking of 131 junior golfers from around the globe including Sweden, Finland, Australia, USA, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia participated in the tournament that offered World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.

Kuala Lumpur’s Nazran Shahrizan secured the title for the second consecutive year carding scores of 75, 70 and 73 over 54 holes. With a six-stroke lead, he waltzed to victory, navigating the challenging terrain and rainy conditions with the finesse.

Nazran said, “I took the early lead advantage, and keeping my cool till the end ensured this achievement. Even with a comfortable lead, I was giving my best on every stroke.”

Otso Jere Ville Juvonen, the Finnish contender, chased but couldn’t match Nazran’s rhythm, settling for runner-up position with scores of 76, 72, and 76.

In ladies’ category, Sohniya Chandra Mohan’s carded scores of 78, 77, and 79, to capture the Ladies Trophy. Facing stiff competition from Indonesian talent Thea Jessica Tan, Sohniya dedicated her win to her mother, a gesture that added a touch of sentiment to her triumph.

Sohniya said, “Maintaining my game plan was crucial. This win is for my mother, who has been my pillar of support throughout.”

The iconic Allamanda Course bore witness to the feats of Categories A, B and C, while the D category left its mark on the Cempaka course over 9 holes for two consecutive days.
