The inaugural Golf Amal Pengerang 2025 made a resounding debut at The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course, setting a high benchmark for community-driven golf events in Johor. Held with the aim of promoting sports tourism and raising funds for local welfare, the event drew over 80 participants including senior government officials, corporate leaders, and golf enthusiasts from across the Johor region.
Jointly organised by Majlis Perbandaran Pengerang (MPP) and the Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA), with strong backing from Tourism Johor, the charity tournament raised funds for Yayasan Makmur Pengerang (YMP), with proceeds going toward community initiatives in the Pengerang region.
“Golf Amal Pengerang is more than just a golf tournament—it’s a platform for collaboration and community building,” said En. Mohammad Nazrul bin Abd Rahim, President of MPP. “Through this initiative, we’re strengthening partnerships between the public sector, corporate stakeholders, and the community while showcasing Pengerang’s potential as a lifestyle and tourism destination. We envision this becoming an annual signature event that blends networking, goodwill, and destination branding.”

The event featured multiple prize categories, including Hole-in-One, Nearest-to-the-Pin, Longest Drive, and the coveted Golf Amal Pengerang Challenge Trophy. Among the standout performances were the top three teams:
- Champion Team: Khairuddin, Norhasimi, Irwan Iskandar, Rislan Kassim
- 1st Runner-Up Team: Akmal Hijaz Bin Ahmad Rustami, Hj Abdul Halim Bin Abdullah, Azhar Mohamed, Shaharfuddin Bon Sarif
- 2nd Runner-Up Team: Norzaidi Ahmad Fuad, Ahmad Tarmimi bin Tahang, Izzat Razin Ali Bakri, Fariz Jaffar
Col. Mohd Jamal Salleh, President of JGTA, lauded the enthusiastic support from participants and sponsors. “The success of this inaugural event reflects Johor’s strong community spirit and the potential for golf to drive positive impact. This collaboration with MPP has exceeded expectations, and we look forward to a bigger, more inclusive Golf Amal Pengerang in 2026.”

He added that Desaru Coast continues to shine as a premier golf tourism destination. “With world-class venues like The Els Club and top-tier amenities, Desaru offers a compelling mix for both golfers and leisure travellers. Since our founding in 2016, JGTA has helped elevate Johor’s presence on the regional golf map—especially with steady interest from countries like Singapore and Korea.”
The tournament’s success reinforces the organisers’ vision of turning Golf Amal Pengerang into a flagship event on Johor’s tourism calendar. Looking ahead to 2026, JGTA and MPP plan to broaden participation by inviting players from across Malaysia and neighbouring ASEAN countries. The goal: to transform the event into a high-impact platform that fuses competitive sport, philanthropy, and cross-sector collaboration.
“Golf Amal Pengerang is not just about playing a great round—it’s about creating shared value for our region,” said Col. Jamal. “We believe this is only the beginning.”
