Malaysia’s Green brothers, Galven and Gavin, teamed up for the first time at the Sandwell Park Pro Pairs in England which ended yesterday, finishing T16 on two-under-par.

Forming part of the UK-based mixed-gender development circuit, the Clutch Pro Tour, the 36-hole tournament saw a total of 40 pairs – made up of two professionals or one pro and one amateur with a handicap of zero or below – taking part. Galven and Gavin combined to card 70 up in the first round foursomes and 70 again in the day two fourballs at the historic par-71 Sandwell Park Golf Club in West Bromwich.

“It was a cool experience partnering my brother because it’s not often we get to play this format … and normally in social golf we are on opposing teams!” said elder brother Gavin, Malaysia’s top male golfer for the best part of the past half-decade.

“It was really fun and gave me something to do with Galven, which is not very often especially in pro golf. It was very nice and different, plus we both got the chance to spend some time together,” added the 27-year-old, who will resume his European Tour campaign at next week’s Made in HimmerLand presented by FREJA in Denmark.

Galven, who turned professional earlier this year after a successful collegiate golf career with the University of New Mexico, noted that it was fun playing with his big brother.

“We had fun out there and I enjoyed partnering Gavin. It was good to learn and strategize during the foursomes, for instance who plays first and attempts the shots, and who attacks during the fourballs,” said the 21-year-old.

Galven played a few events on the Big Easy IGT Tour in South Africa from February to March and has now switched his attention to the UK due to the limited availability of return flights from South Africa. He will be playing mainly on the PGA EuroPro Tour which is a feeder to the European Tour’s second-tier Challenge Tour, as well as selected events on the Clutch Pro Tour.

“I’m looking forward to this new challenge in my professional career,” said Galven, whose next event is the PGA EuroPro Tour’s IFX Championship at Harleyford Golf Club in Marlow on May 26-28.
