Malaysia’s Gavin Green is looking forward to his Open Championship debut this July at Carnoustie, one of the toughest courses on the Open rota.
“I’ve played links golf once in practice but not in a tournament, so it will be interesting. I’ve always liked crazy golf … you know, aim at the trees and come back, all that kind of stuff. I’ve always had that kind of imagination so I’m looking forward to Carnoustie,” said Green, who earned his Open start by winning the 2017 Asian Tour Order of Merit.
“I’ve always liked it tough; I don’t like it easy and that’s just the way I am. There are going to a lot of good players, the best in the world, and it’s my first-ever Open … so we’ll see what it happens.
“I’ve got a couple of months to prep for it and I’m trying to plan my schedule where maybe I play the Scottish Open the week before to get a feel for the Open Championship,” added the 24-year-old.
Green was speaking during yesterday’s meet-the-media session ahead of next week’s third EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club, where he will be making his debut as part of Arjun Atwal’s Team Asia which will a strong European side led by Thomas Bjorn. The first edition of the biennial matchplay team event in 2014 ended in a tie, while the Europeans triumphed easily in the last encounter two years ago.
