The Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) has conferred its Outstanding Contribution to Golf Award on His Royal Highness Tunku Imran, recognising his pioneering role in developing junior golf and strengthening the broader sporting landscape in Malaysia.
H.R.H. Tunku Imran founded SportExcel in 1991, establishing Malaysia’s first structured junior golf development pathway and nurturing talents such as Ben Leong and Gavin Green through national and international competition. As President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia from 1998 to 2018, he played a vital role in enhancing the governance and promotion of sport across multiple disciplines.
An International Olympic Committee (IOC) member since 2006 and an honorary member since 2018, Tunku Imran has been recognised globally for his lifelong contribution to sport. Over more than three decades, SportExcel has evolved into a sustainable and effective model for youth golf development, underpinned by strong governance and long-term funding – a reflection of Tunku Imran’s vision and commitment to sporting excellence.
The award was presented at the AGIF Gala Awards Dinner in Kuala Lumpur on October 29, during the Federation’s Annual International Summit.
Chris Gray, AGIF President, said: “His Royal Highness’s leadership has transformed golf in Malaysia and inspired the next generation of players and administrators across the region.”
