Hana Financial Group Championship start for WAAP champion Mizuki Hashimoto

Lydia Ko and Minjee Lee took part in this year's Hana Financial Group Championship

A start in the next Hana Financial Group Championship, the flagship event of the Ladies Asian Tour (LAT) Series, awaits newly-crowned 2021 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) champion Mizuki Hashimoto of Japan.

Organised by the Asia Golf Leaders Forum (AGLF), a non-profit organisation, the LAT Series is committed to providing opportunities to further develop the potential of the region’s most promising female golfers and unearth new talents. This is in line with the objective of the WAAP, created by The R&A and Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation.

2018 WAAP champion Atthaya Thitikul of Thailand and Yuka Saso of the Philippines, who won her first Major in the US Women’s Open earlier this year, played in the inaugural Hana Financial Group Championship in 2019. The prestigious championship returned to South Korea in September and welcomed the presence of several international golfers, including New Zealand’s Lydia Ko,  Minjee Lee of Australia who clinched her first Major title in France in July, and American Yealimi Noh. Several promising young golfers such as Singapore’s Shannon Tan, Malaysia’s Norezrine Alisa and Noraishah Alisa, Thailand’s Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong, Jaravee Boonchant and Onkanok Soisuwan, were also invited for the tournament.

The WAAP winner also gets to play in two major championships, the AIG Women’s Open and The Amundi Evian Championship, and earns an invitation to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

Paul Park, Secretary-General of the AGLF, said: “”LAT Series will continue to work with our valued partners, The R&A and Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation to create more opportunities for these young prospects to shine on the world stage, including the planned APAC World Cup of Golf in Asia in 2022.”
