Bespoke Japanese clubmaker Honma Golf has introduced the all-new Tour Release (TR) Series, designed for competitive golfers looking for premium performance matched with the brand’s trademark uncompromising craftsmanship.
The TR20 driver and TR20 irons are engineered to deliver exceptional speed and tour-level performance, with the driver already finding its way into the bag of reigning Olympic champion and 2013 US Open winner Justin Rose. Fairway woods, hybrids and more iron models are due for release later this year.
The TR Series sits alongside the game-improvement XP Crossover Series in the Honma Premium Performance category, while the recently introduced new Beres range headlines the Super Premium sector for 2020.
TR20 Driver
The TR20 460 driver comes in a beautifully-shaped 460cc profile, with a near-total carbon body and lightweight titanium frame combining to deliver explosive distance and accuracy.
The TiCarbon Fast Frame combines ultra-lightweight ET40 carbon crown from Toray Composites with a carbon sole on a highly optimised titanium frame that is both weight and speed efficient.
Innovative vertical grooves behind the precision cast thin titanium face save an additional 2g of weight, while providing increased face repulsion for explosive ball speeds and more distance.
The new driver also features three strategically-located and adjustable sole weights to provide flight and playability preference for increased MOI, reduced spin, or more draw bias.
Meanwhile, Honma’s non-rotating hosel allows the clubhead to be adjusted +/- 1.5 degrees in face angle, +/- 1 degree in loft, and +/- 1 degree in lie angle without changing the orientation of the perfectly-spined Honma Vizard shaft for more consistent impact.
The TR20 driver has been holistically engineered to match the high performance Vizard shafts, ensuring that all components work in perfect harmony.
“TR20 drivers are a feat of engineering from our incredibly talented teams in Sakata, Japan and Carlsbad, USA. Combining this innovative carbon construction with the legendary craftsmanship of our takumis in Japan is something we’re very excited for golfers to experience,” said Honma president John Kawaja.
When Rose saw the TR20 for the first time, his first word was “badass!” The English star immediately put TR20 460 into play at the Hero World Challenge last December and at the SMBC Singapore Open in January.
The TR20 460 driver is available in 9.5° and 10.5° lofts, and come with a weight kit to help achieve the perfect set-up.
TR20 Irons
Combining highly sought after Honma craftsmanship with tour-level performance, the TR20 irons have been engineered using premium materials to deliver incredibly precise feel, distance and control.
Crafted for golfers seeking a more compact blade length, the TR20 V iron is forged from the finest soft S20C carbon steel and incorporates a modern cavity back design. The set is built in strong but playable lofts.
The TR20 V is a true player’s iron that delivers players distance, built with a better player-preferred blade length and topline. The iconic Honma mole logo in the cavity signifies the uncompromising forging heritage that the Japanese clubmaker prides itself on.
The TR20 P meanwhile is a player’s distance iron with game-improvement playability. It features a forged S35C steel body with an L-cup face for ball speed and a tungsten-weighted pocket cavity to create speed-enhancing forgiveness and a low CG for higher launch and longer carry distance.
The common design language allows golfers to blend both models into an ideal single set.
Both new TR20 irons are expertly shaped and crafted by some of the most skilled clubmakers in the world, featuring everything that Honma engineers and designers know about golf club technology and construction.
