The journey to becoming elite professionals has been solidified with the launch of the inaugural LL International, where close to 100 top amateur boys and girls from the Asia Pacific are set to compete in the tournament at the Laguna National Masters Course from May 30 to June 1.
On the back of the Queen Sirikit Cup, officially known as the Amateur Ladies Asia-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship, the 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranked (WAGR) stroke play tournament is also poised to become the first fully international mixed golf amateur event in Singapore, where valuable WAGR points are also on offer.
The LLD International is expected to feature many of the top girls’ golfers from the Queen Sirikit Cup and several top-ranked boys golfers who will be flying into the Lion City to battle for the event’s first championship trophy.
The field will be limited to a maximum of 48 boys and 48 girls. If the entries fall short or exceed the aforesaid respective numbers, the organising committee reserves the right to amend the eligibility requirements as they deem fit. Entries will generally be based on the entrants with the lowest Handicap Index – WHS Handicap Index of 8.0 or lower for boys and 12.0 or lower for girls.
Hong Kong’s 14-year-old Arianna Lau (+3.9), who played her way into the local psyche by finishing third at the EFG Singapore Junior Masters, will feature in the promising field that also includes local hopeful Shannon Tan (+5.0), who will be turning out for the prestigious Texas Tech golf team in NCAA Division 1 in the USA as she turns 18 this year. The Singaporean also finished second behind Japan’s Mizuki Hashimoto in the individual standings at the Queen Sirikit Cup.
Singapore-based Philippine player Samantha Marie Dizon (+2.0) will also feel confident coming off her win at last year’s Singapore Junior Golf Championships and a Class A win at the EFG Singapore Junior Masters. 21 years old
Also, expect future stars like 15-year-old Avani Prashanth (+5.9) of India, who won the All India Women’s Amateur in 2021 and top showing at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship (WAAP) (T16) and Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship (T21) to put up a strong performance on the regional stage again.
The Junior Division Boys and Girls is open to players 15 years and under (as of 30th May 2022) and will require a minimum of eight players in the competition. The open and junior divisions will play from the same tee boxes, and all junior competitors are eligible to compete for the Champion Golfer Trophy.
