The Professional Golf Association of Malaysia (PGAM) will be staging a pro-am event at TPC Kuala Lumpur to help fund its activities including new efforts to create public engagement programs.

The inaugural PGAM Invitational Pro-Am will be played at TPCKL’s East Course on the morning of April 1, with entries open to the public priced at RM5,000 per flight of three who will team up with a PGAM professional. The format will be strokeplay with the professional’s score and the best two nett amateur scores on each hole counting towards the team’s final tally.

“The objective of the PGAM Invitational Pro-Am is to raise funds to support programs for our members, both touring and vocational,” said PGAM president CM Chong.

“This is the first time we are organising a pro-am and we hope that it will also create more public awareness of our activities, especially among local companies,” he elaborated.

Chong noted that they hope to raise enough funds not only for the association but also for local NGOs that need financial assistance.

“As this is the first of our fund-raising initiatives, we are trying to  conjure up enough funds to kick off a series of programs and tournaments. Our fund-raising exercises will also see donations to some local organisations that need help. We’ve singled out a couple for this pro-am,” Chong stressed.

The PGAM currently has a membership base of around 300 , with slightly over 100 comprising touring pros and the rest made up of vocational (teaching) pros.
