Johor strengthens its position as a global golf destination

Overall Gross Champion - Gur Rahfia Gur Rahman

The 7th Tourism Johor Golf Tournament 2024, hosted at The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course, showcased Johor’s growing reputation as a premier golf tourism destination. The tournament featuring 136 golfers from Malaysia, Australia, Korea, Singapore, and China, highlighted not just the state’s world-class golf facilities but also its appeal as a hub for international collaboration. The golfers played for the coveted Tunku Panglima Johor Challenge Trophy.

Organised by the Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA), the tournament brought together players and partners in a shared celebration of the sport, with His Highness Tunku Panglima Johor and His Highness Tunku Putera Johor lending royal gravitas to the occasion.

The tournament also underscored strategic efforts to attract international golfers. With direct flights from Kunming to Senai Airport and proximity to Singapore, Johor is increasingly accessible for regional players. JGTA plans to leverage these advantages through partnerships with golf clubs, hotels, and service providers, offering tailored stay-and-play packages.

Looking ahead, upcoming Asian Development Tour events in 2025 at Forest City Golf Resort and The Els Club promise to further bolster Johor’s standing on the global golf stage, driving economic benefits and solidifying its status as a key player in international golf tourism.

“We deeply value the trust and commitment of all our partners and sponsors, and we could not have achieved this success without their unwavering support. JGTA remains committed to delivering an even more extraordinary event next year and further enhancing Johor’s status as a premier golf tourism destination,” he concluded.
