Malaysian No 1 Kelly Tan will head into the weekend at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open in T24 position on four-under-par, six strokes behind co-leaders Inbee Park and Jodi Ewart Shadoff.
Tan carded a second round even-par 73 at Royal Adelaide Golf Club, offsetting three birdies with three bogeys at the par-73 layout.
“It was was a great ball-striking round and I feel really close to shooting low scores. I just need to get my putter going in the weekend.
“I’m very excited to be where I’m positioned and am looking forward to two good rounds of golf,” said Tan, who is playing in her second LPGA event of the year following a 40th place finish at last week’s ISPS Handa Vic Open.
The US$1.3 million ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open is co-sanctioned by the LPGA Tour, Australian Ladies Professional Golf (ALPG) and Golf Australia.
Tan is back on the LPGA Tour after regaining full playing rights via last year’s Q-Series at Pinehurst. She played four full seasons on the LPGA Tour from 2014 but lost full playing rights following the 2017 season, competing mainly on the second-tier Symetra Tour in 2018 and 2019. The 26-year-old won the 2019 Florida’s Natural Charity Classic on the Symetra Tour for her first international professional title.
