Malaysian ladies No 1 Kelly Tan resumes her LPGA Tour campaign in this week’s Pure Silk Championship presented by Visit Williamsburg, which starts today at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Kelly is coming off a three-week break during the LPGA’s Asian swing as she did not get starts in the limited-field HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore and Honda LPGA Thailand in Pattaya. Although she finished a career best 37th on the Race To CME Globe in 2020, Kelly has to play herself into many events this year with player status based mainly on 2019 due to Covid-19.
In four LPGA starts so far this year, Kelly’s best finish was T22 at the Lotte Championship in Hawaii in mid-April. In two weeks’ time, the 27-year-old will make her 17th career Major appearance in the US Women’s Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. This will be Kelly’s fourth US Women’s Open with her best finish being a T32 performance in 2016 at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, California.
Kelly tees off in today’s first round of the Pure Silk Championship at 12.15pm (Malaysian time – 12.15am, Friday May 21) with Korea’s Youngin Chun and Germany’s Esther Henseleit. The tournament is broadcast ‘live’ on the Golf Channel HD (Astro Channel 822) from Friday to Monday, 3am to 6am.
