Malaysian ladies no 1 Kelly Tan has climbed up five spots to 36th position on the LPGA Tour’s season-long Race To CME Globe standings after an impressive T11 finish in the Volunteers of America Classic yesterday.
Kelly carded rounds of 73, 68, 71 and 72 in cold and challenging conditions at Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas, for an even-par 284 total. The tournament was won by American Angela Stanford with a seven-under-par total, two shots ahead of compatriot Yealimi Noh and Koreans Inbee Park and So Yeon Ryu.
Next up for Kelly is her 16th Major appearance at this week’s US Women’s Open, staged at Champions Golf Club in Houston. The 27-year-old will be aiming to top her best Major finish of T13, which came at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in October and is also the best-ever performance by a Malaysian of either gender in a Major.
The US Women’s Open was originally scheduled for June but moved to its current date in a revamped and abbreviated LPGA schedule. To account for reduced daylight in December, the first two rounds will be played over both Champions Golf Club courses, Cypress Creek and Jackrabbit, with the former hosting rounds 3 and 4.
