The Kelana Queen Ladies’ Open 2023 got off to a rousing start on the morning of March 11, with 93 lady golfers from across the country teeing off the challenging Kelana Course at the Kelab Golf Negara Subang (KGNS) for the coveted title of Kelana Queen. The one-day tournament was played on strokeplay format.
Golfing stalwart Alyah Tan of KGNS, playing off a handicap of 19, recorded a score of nett 58 58 to emerge victorious and was proclaimed the new ‘Kelana Queen’ in the royal presence of DYMM Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Aishah Rohani binti Almarhum Tengku Besar Mahmud and YTM Tunku Temenggong Kedah, Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and other VVIPs.
Tuanku Aishah Rohani presented the winning trophy, RM1,000 gift voucher and a golf set at the prize giving ceremony over lunch at Dewan Tunku at the club. Dr. Nyana Kalaiwani finished in second place, five strokes behind Alyah, on nett 63, while the third spot on countback went to Irene Hong (8) on 65.
In the gross category, golfer Khairunhanisah (4) amassed a total gross score of 77 to win the gross title. She was closely followed by Gunaningsih (3) who carded a 78 for second place. Third place went by Michelle Jeon Yoon Jeong (9) on 81.
During the prize-giving, the audience were kept entertained with the abundance of novelty prizes and enticing lucky draws. The event was made even more memorable by the KGNS Ladies, who performed a humorous dance performance to the popular songs like “Aci-Aci Buka Pintu” and “Lompat Apek Lompat”.
Tournament Director, Puan Sharifah Khatijah Syed Abdul Rahman who is also KGNS’ Lady Convenor, was pleased with this year’s tournament due to the positive response from both domestic and international participants. Speaking at the prize giving ceremony, she thanked all sponsors for their unwavering support in making the tournament a success. She expects Kelana Queen to be back bigger, returning with a two day format next year.
