The 2024 PNC Championship concluded in dramatic fashion as Bernhard and Jason Langer edged out Tiger and Charlie Woods in a thrilling playoff to claim the title. Both teams set a record low 36-hole total score of 116, forcing a playoff at the 18th hole. After Tiger, Charlie, and Jason missed their eagle attempts, Bernhard calmly sank his eagle putt to secure his sixth PNC Championship title, while Jason celebrated his fourth.

The event’s final day was further highlighted by two spectacular holes-in-one. Charlie Woods aced the 176-yard par-3 fourth hole with a 7-iron, and shortly after, Paddy Harrington achieved his own ace on the 183-yard par-3 eighth hole with a 6-iron, helping Team Harrington secure third place.

Reflecting on the win, Jason Langer remarked, “It was a special day. I mean, what a treat to play with Tiger and Charlie. Charlie is an awesome player. Amazing to witness that hole-in-one on 4. A real honour for me to play with Tiger. It was tight all day. We were within a shot either way from the very beginning, and he (Dad) really played well. Won’t forget it.”

Bernhard Langer, recalling his history with Tiger Woods, shared, “Maybe not the final round. I played with him probably a dozen times. I was one of the first to play with him when he turned pro. But that was a long time ago. He’s come a long way and won a lot of tournaments since. But they couldn’t have been nicer. Both of them, truly very gentlemen-like. Fun to be with. Competitive. You could see they wanted to win this, and they played awesome.”

Jason noted the unique experience of playing in the final pairing with Team Woods. “The crowd was more than anything I’ve ever played in front of for sure. Being out there with Dad and having family on the bag made it more comfortable. Knowing we’ve made good memories and hit plenty of good shots on this course before definitely helped me feel at ease.”

For Bernhard, the added buzz of playing alongside Team Woods brought focus. “For me personally, it just makes me focus even more so. I seem to enjoy that challenge to be the underdog or to play in tough circumstances. It just helps me to zero in even more. But I was very proud of how he (Jason) handled it… It’s pretty amazing.”

After finishing second in their tournament, Tiger Woods and his son Charlie shared heartfelt reflections on the experience, particularly Charlie’s milestone of achieving his first hole-in-one.

Speaking about the moment, Charlie said, “It was awesome having Dad there. That was so much fun. It was just a perfect 7-iron, little cut in there. Of course never got to see it go in. So that sucks. But that’s all right.”

Tiger echoed the sentiment, highlighting the emotional significance of the moment. “That was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to have that moment with Charlie, make his first hole-in-one, Sam on the bag, just our family and friends. That’s what this event is about. It’s about bonding and family,” he shared.

Reflecting on their overall performance, Tiger added, “For us to have that experience together, I know we didn’t win, but it was the fact that we competed. No one really made a mistake out there. We had to earn it, and that’s what you want to have. Hats off to Langers. They played amazing.”

While victory eluded them, the father-son duo focused on the memories and bonds formed during the competition, embodying the true spirit of the event.

When asked about Bernhard Langer’s impressive performance at the age of 67, Tiger Woods didn’t hold back his admiration. “It’s incredible, right? The driver he hit out of the bunker on 14, that was one of the best shots I’ve ever seen,” he said.

Charlie Woods, equally in awe, added, “Speechless. It was awesome. He didn’t miss a shot out there.”

Turning the spotlight to his son, Tiger praised Charlie’s growth and commitment to the game. “He’s gotten better at every facet of the game. That’s a commitment to practicing and developing as a player,” Tiger noted.

He also emphasised the unique challenges Charlie faces at such a young age. “I think that most of us forget he’s only 15 years old. I know he’s been doing this in front of the media for a long time. But being only 15, I think it’s incredible what he’s been able to accomplish so far, and the ceiling that he has is unlimited.”

Padraig and Paddy Harrington secured their best-ever finish at the PNC Championship, tying for 3rd place alongside the Duvals and the Singhs. However, the highlight of their weekend was undoubtedly Paddy’s first hole-in-one, a moment that left both father and son elated.

Reflecting on the achievement, Padraig shared his excitement: “I’ve never been so excited in my life. It was a great shot, which is nice. You know, I know my first hole-in-one wasn’t a spectacularly good shot. That was perfect swing, perfect shot, and when it went in, I’ve never experienced anything like it, the joy of it. Because obviously, you can win tournaments and do that, and that’s a different sort of pressure and excitement.”

He continued, “I was too excited. You couldn’t have talked to me. I was gone. This is a great event, and all of it is great. And we try and play well, but that was sheer joy. I don’t think it could have been a better golfing moment.”

Paddy echoed the sentiment, adding, “I knew it was a good shot, and I was kind of fading it in. And then to just see everyone on the back of the green erupt was an unbelievable feeling.”
