Malaysian boys’ and Korean girls’ teams continue atop the team leaderboard while China and Korea up the stakes in the individual event of the Selangor International Junior Golf Championship

Malaysia’s Hariz Hezri and his teammates have retained their lead in the team event

Hariz Hezri, Nor Haqiem Hadi, Syed Nor Ismail and Muhammad Ajmal Amin, who represent Malaysia’s Team A, continue to dominate the team event and remain at the top of the leaderboard after the second day of the Selangor International Junior Golf Championship at Kelab Golf Seri Selangor. The Korean girls’ team comprising Yeji Park (67, 73), Min Young Yu (80, 78) and Hyo Jin (72, 80) maintained their top position with their two-day total score of 450.

Hariz Hezri (72, 78), Nor Haqiem Hadi (75, 78) and Muhammad Ajmal Amin (81, 73), and Syed Nor Ismail (78, 82) total score of 454 ensured that they remained at the top of the leaderboard. They are 14 strokes ahead of the Korean team, who carded a combined score of 468.

The Malaysian Girls’ Team A remained in second place after Foong Zi Yu (77, 73), Wang Xin Yao (76, 84), Ng Jing Xuen (73, 81) and Alya Afza (84, 82), carding a total score of 462, 10 strokes behind the leader, Korea.

Hariz Hezri, who led the field yesterday, dropped to second place after carding a six-over-par 78 for a two-day total of six-over-par 150. Wang Yixiang carded a one-under-par 71 for a three-over-par total of 147  to leap to the top of the leaderboard. Yixiang is the only player who returned with a subpar score. Malaysia’s Wan Hasnul Daniel and Nazran Shahrizan tied for third place with eight-over-par 152.

“I just had to bring myself together and focus on my game,” said Wang Yixiang. “I just tried to keep myself really calm and minimise my mistakes.”

In the girls’ individual event, Korea’s Yeji Park held on to her lead with a four-under-par 140. Canada’s Lucy Lin took second place after carding a one-over-par 73 for two-over-par 146. Malaysia’s Foong Zi Yu claimed third place after carding one-over-par 73 for six-over-par 150.

“I love the set-up of the course, and I have been playing great for the last two days,” said Yeji Park. “Seri Selangor is a great golf course, and I look forward to another great round tomorrow.”

A total of 17 boys and six girls made the cut at 28-over-par 172 for the Boys’ Division and 25-over-par 169 for the Girls’ Division in the individual event.

As a bonus to the winners, the overall boy champion will win a slot at the Selangor Masters, while the overall girl champion will have a place at the 119th Malaysia Amateur Open. The organiser, UUM International School of Malacca (UUMISM), has also generously offered a scholarship to the local champion and runner-up worth RM70,000.00 and RM50,000.00, respectively, if they choose to enrol at the UUMISM.
