Malaysia’s Winnie Ng showcased her resilience on Thursday at the CLPG Tour Qualifying Tournament, despite challenging weather conditions that tested even the most seasoned players. The Kuala Lumpur native, who led after the first round, ended the day tied for second after carding a 76 at The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula West Course in Hainan Island.

Ng’s round included two birdies, four bogeys, and a tough double-bogey on the 18th hole, bringing her to a two-round total of two-over par, three strokes behind leader Holly Victoria Halim of Indonesia. Reflecting on her performance, the 23-year-old rookie pro acknowledged the demanding conditions and her focus on fighting through them.

“It was colder than I expected,” Ng shared. “I felt like I fought really hard today, making a lot of up-and-downs. It wasn’t as aggressive as yesterday, but I’m learning from my mistakes. Tonight, I’ll review and adjust my course management to handle the wind better.”

Ng, aiming for one of the 30 coveted full-time playing cards for the 2025 CLPG Tour season, remains optimistic. “This is a learning experience, and I’m staying focused on what I can control. Tomorrow is a new opportunity to play my best,” she said.

Another Malaysian player making her mark is Ng Jing Xuen, who has emerged as a strong contender for one of the 30 full-time playing cards up for grabs in the 2025 season. Ng posted rounds of 73 and 74 for a total of 147, placing her in a tie for ninth position.

Halim, who grew up in Xiamen, China, leads the field with a two-under 70, the only player under par after 36 holes. Thailand’s Chakansim Khamborn joined Ng at tied second with a 71, while China’s Wang Zixuan and Thai pro Napabhach Boon-In sit four strokes back.
