The Malaysian Golf Association has assured the golf industry that it will continue to engage with the government as the nation enters a ‘total lockdown’ from June 1 until June 14.
While golf clubs in areas under the Movement Control Order have been closed since early May, golf retail was allowed to operate but will now have to close under the tightened restrictions which start tomorrow.
In a circular sent out today, MGA president Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor noted:
“As announced by the YAB Prime Minister on 29th May 2021, the TOTAL LOCKDOWN will take effect 1st June to 14th June 2021 nationwide. As confirmed by the National Security Council (NSC), all golf-related operations are to be temporarily suspended including Sabah and Sarawak until further notice from the government.
However, in respect of minimum golf course maintenance, kindly seek the relevant approvals from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan – KPKT) in which your golf course is situated. As advised by NSC, please be informed that you are further required to obtain the necessary approvals from KPKT in respect of the percentage of your maintenance workforce that may be allowed at any one time on the golf course.
“Notwithstanding, the MGA will continue to engage with the officials from NSC and Kementerian Belia Dan Sukan (KBS) for the expeditious reopening of all golf-related operations.
“We will revert to you as and when further updates are available.
“Your health and safety remain our top priority during this time, please #staysafe.”
