Malaysian professional golfers Ashley Lau and Geraldine Wong are set to represent Malaysia in the US$750,000 Simone Asia Pacific Cup at the Pondok Indah Golf Course in Jakarta from 21-23 December.
The duo, experienced in national team competitions with past successes at the Sea Games, will not only vie for individual honours in the 54-hole stroke play competition but will also form a formidable team against 29 teams from 14 Asia Pacific nations.
Ashley Lau, a seasoned player who recently completed her rookie season on the Epson Tour has demonstrated her prowess with two top-five finishes. She secured a commendable 56th position in the Epson Tour official money list, ensuring her full status for the upcoming season among the top 80 finishers.
Expressing enthusiasm about the tournament format and the increasing opportunities for female professionals in the region, Ashley Lau sees the Simone Asia Pacific Cup as a unique and welcome addition to the golfing calendar.
For Geraldine Wong, this event holds special significance as it marks her debut on the international stage as a professional golfer. Following her transition to the play-for-pay ranks post-Sea Games, Geraldine clinched her maiden victory at the Toyota Tour’s Camry Cup in Johor last month. The Simone Asia Pacific Cup provides a platform for Geraldine to further showcase her talents and contribute to Malaysia’s representation in the prestigious competition.
