Malaysia’s Alyaa Abdulghany extended her fine start in professional golf with a superb sixth place finish in LPGA Qualifying School Stage 2 at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida, yesterday. The 22-year-old carded rounds of 70, 68, 69 and 70 for an 11-under-par total, eight shots behind medalist Pauline Roussin-Bouchard of France.
Alyaa will join the top 45 finishers and ties in the gruelling 144-hole LPGA Q-Series, to be played over two weeks at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama. The first 72 holes takes place at Magnolia Grove in Mobile on December 2-5, while the second 72 holes will be staged at Highland Oaks in Dothan on December 9-12. The Q-Series field will include players who finish 101 to 150 on this year’s LPGA Race to CME Globe as well as players ranked 11 to 35 from the Symetra Tour money list. A maximum of 10 spots will go to players in the top 75 of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, while the top five and ties on the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit are also exempt.
The top 45 players and ties at the end of Q-Series will receive LPGA membership in Category 14 on the 2022 LPGA Priority List, while those who finish outside of the top 20 will also receive Symetra Tour membership.
Alyaa concluded a standout collegiate career with the University of Southern California in May and turned professional last month. Last year, she made history last year by becoming the first Malaysian to reach the semifinals of the US Women’s Amateur before bowing out 2& 1 to eventual winner Rose Zhang.
