Amir Nazrin and Daeng Rahman were the only Malaysian players to make the 36-hole cut in the Asian Tour Qualifying School Final Stage, which is being played at the Lake View Resort and Golf Club in Hua Hin, Thailand.
From a starting field of 244, the gruelling five-round qualifier has two cuts – to leading 140 players plus ties after two rounds and to leading 70 plus ties after four rounds.
Amir carded a superb second round 66 at the A&B Course to surge up the leaderboard into T35 place on three-under-par, while Daeng shot an even-par 71 on the same 18 to make the cut on the number at two-over-par.
However, the eight other Malaysians who started – U-Minn Woon, Brandon Lau, Shahriffuddin Ariffin, Paul San, Irfan Yusof, T. Kiishaan, Muhd Zafran Abdullah and Jaydon Pang – failed to make it to the next round.
Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Follett-Smith, Japan’s Toshiumi Kushioka, American Dodge Kemmer and Korea’s
Hyowon Park jointly lead the standings on nine-under-par.
The leading 35 players and ties following Sunday’s final round will earn their Asian Tour cards and be ranked accordingly for the 2020 season.
