Malaysia’s Gavin Green finished second in the Portugal Masters to secure spot in the season-ending tournament in Dubai

Malaysia’s Gavin Green finished alone in second place after closing with a brilliant 64 to finish on 27-under-par 257, three shots behind winner Jordan Smith of England at the Portugal Masters at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura.

Green carded four impressive rounds of 64, 65, 64 and 64, with the final round featuring six birdies, one eagle and a bogey. His runner-up finish saw him collect €220,525.80, taking his season earnings to €637,616.94.

The 28-year-old Green barely put a foot wrong all day, impressing with some magnificent shots as he attempted to reel in Smith but in the end the Englishman proved impossible to catch.

The runner-up finish has catapulted Green’s position on the DP World Tour Rankings to a career-best 42nd place. The 34 spot jump also saw him qualify for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates. The event will be held on November 17-20 and only features the top 50 players in the ranking.
