Malaysia’s Natasha Andrea Oon announced on social media recently that she would be playing at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give for the first time as a professional.

“It has been my lifelong dream to be able to have this sport as my career. The hours and sweat put in was definitely worth it for this moment,” Natasha posted on her social media account.

The 20-year, two-time All-American NCAA selection also thanked her coaches, Erik Stone and Brian Inkster, for helping her shape her game and her parents for helping her become the person she is today. She won two events this year: the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional and Mountain West Conference Championship. She was ranked seventh in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, the highest rank a Malaysian has ever reached.

Recently, Oon received the 2022 Inkster Award Presented by Workday as the highest-ranked women’s NCAA Division 1 golfer in her final year of eligibility. The Award gave her exemptions to the Meijer LPGA Classic this week and the AmazingCre Portland Classic in September. She will also advance into the second stage of the LPGA Qualifying School this October. The award also included US$50,000 to the Juli Inkster Foundation, which will support Oon in her professional career. It also has a mentorship retreat with Inkster. Juli Inkster was a three-time All-American at San Jose State from 1979 to 1982.

Oon recently graduated from San Jose State with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in General Business and is now pursuing a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies (Sports and Data)
