Meru Valley Resort’s Junior Golf Academy has resumed operations and is open for new enrolments, with health and safety measures firmly in place.
The academy’s programmes are designed for juniors aged 7 to 16 years, catering for all abilities. From novice to advanced learners, they are not only coached to play and compete but also to have fun and grow their confidence in a safe and controlled environment.
The programmes are run by certified golf instructor Sundaresan Raman, fondly known as Sunny.
“Now is a great time to be outdoors playing golf. The academy offers a cross-curriculum programme, with a strong focus on the mental game, as well as the physical and social-emotional skills built through golf fundamentals,” said Sunny, who holds certifications from the Australian Golf Teachers Federation (AGTF) and World Golf Teachers Federation (WGTF).
“Students learn more than a game; we emphasise emotional resilience and build confidence through a holistic programme to get children learning and growing in a fun and safe environment.”
Academy student Chanelle Woo, 15, said: “I knew very little about golf when I came. This is my 10th lesson with the academy, and I can proudly say that I can now hit golf balls without tee and I have learnt chipping and putting. I hope to improve my longer golf shots in the upcoming lessons.”
Another 15-year-old student, Fuji Wong, who is in the academy’s elite programme, noted: “The coach teaches us in an effective way, where it is easy to understand. He is friendly and approachable, therefore it’s easy to learn from him. He personally coaches me on fine-tuning my swing.”
The academy’s new safety protocols include limiting each lesson to five students, compulsory temperature checks, health declarations, wearing of face masks, frequent hand sanitising before and after lessons, as well as sanitising of equipment before and after use.
