Most golf courses in Thailand expected to re-open in May, says IAGTO

Siam Country Club, Pattaya

Most golf courses across Thailand are expected to reopen in May, according to the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).

The report on the IAGTO website from the association’s Thailand representative, George Saharat Somabha, noted:

“Most golf courses across Thailand should be re-opening from 1 May, with some re-opening from 15 May.

“The Thai Prime Minister has given authority to each province’s governor to make their own judgement on what action to take without central government interference. So far, the province of Chonburi which includes Thailand’s largest golf destination around the resort of Pattaya, will definitely be re-opening from 1 May as this has just been announced officially.

“This announcement in Chonburi includes not only golf course but hotels, restaurants, spa and all businesses. However, whether or not to open will be up to each business owner. Some of smaller businesses are not expected to open.

“Mr. Suvit Reanrungreang, President of Petchburi and Prachuab Kirikhan Golf, to which all major golf courses Hua Hin and Cha Am belong, informed us that all golf courses in Hua Hin and the Cha Am region have been well-maintained and are ready to receive domestic and foreign golfers from 1 May.”

Thailand has been under a State of Emergency since March 25 due to the the Covid-19 pandemic but recent numbers indicate that the curve is flattening.
