The 120th Malaysian Amateur Open concluded at the Sabah Golf & Country Club, with Vietnam’s Nguyen Anh Minh and Korea’s Sieun Lee triumphing in the men’s and ladies’ divisions, respectively.
Vietnam’s Nguyen Anh Minh claimed the men’s title with a final round of 71, finishing at one-under-par (72, 70, 74, 71). Korea’s Minsu Kim came in second at one-over (71, 72, 70, 76), while Indonesia’s Randy Arsenate Mohamad Bintang and Malaysia’s Anson Yeo shared third place at 4-over. Thailand’s Parin Sarasmut and Indonesia’s Rayhan Abdul Latief tied for fifth at 5-over.
“This victory means a lot to me,” said Nguyen. “The course was challenging, but I stayed focused and patient. It’s an incredible honour to win the Malaysian Amateur Open.”
Malaysia’s top finisher, Anson Yeo, expressed pride in his performance. “The competition was intense, and I’m proud to finish among the top players. The local support was fantastic and inspires me to keep improving.”
In the ladies’ category, Korea’s Sieun Lee emerged victorious with a total score of 10-over (78, 75, 72, 73), showcasing consistency and precision over four rounds. Fellow Korean Hyojin Park secured second at 13-over (73, 77, 73, 78), while Thailand’s Prim Prachnakorn placed third at 16-over. Malaysia’s Wang Xin Yao finished fourth at 17-over, with Thailand’s Pimpisa Rubrong rounding out the top five at 23-over.
“I’m thrilled to win this prestigious tournament,” said Sieun. “The course required resilience and precision, and I’m grateful to my coaches and team for their support.”
Malaysia’s Wang Xin Yao, the top local finisher in the ladies’ division, reflected on the experience. “This championship was a tremendous learning opportunity. I’m proud to finish as the top Malaysian player and will use this experience to continue growing.”
