With the golf industry facing a new dawn as the world slowly recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic, Sports Marketing Surveys in conjunction with the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) is conducting a survey on golfers’ playing habits.
Titled ‘How COVID-19 is Changing Golf in Asia – Playing Habits’, the ground-breaking initiative will provide valuable data for the golf industry to help chart a course towards recovery and serve the golfing consumer better in the new normal. Questions cover not only playing habits but travel, shopping and lessons preferences as well.
“The ‘Playing Habits’ survey covers golfers in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea and is the first of its kind. The findings will show that, like North America, UK/Europe and Australia/NZ, golf participation has increased in Asia and reveal some of the reasons behind the increase,” said AGIF chief executive Eric Lynge.
Lynge added that the survey is the first of a regular series. “We will have at least one more in 2021 and at least two more in 2022. They will be related industry studies to update playing habits post Covid-19, measuring retention rates, travel habits, etc.”
With a strong hunger for golf following shutdowns of varying lengths throughout Asia, Lynge noted that the overall prognosis for the industry is bright.
“An increase in golf is a good sign and certain sectors have already seen the benefit, like equipment manufacturers. Some golf courses are doing well with their members and local play, while others are struggling. Tourism will play a key role in the recovery, as well as how well we retain new golfers,” he stressed.
