Ponderosa Golf & Country Resort in Johor Bahru is contributing 300 packs of cooked food daily to individuals and families adversely impacted by the Movement Control Order (MCO) and will continue to do so until the MCO ceases on June 9.
In collaboration with Yayasan Kebajikan Suria Johor Bahru , the food packs will be distributed through partner NGOs and NGIs under the Social Hero Foundation’s umbrella to labourers, petty traders, taxi/Grab drivers, bus drivers, contract workers and other day-job workers who have been suffered significant or even total loss of income due to the closure of businesses since March 18 when the MCO was first enforced.
“When the MCO began, Ponderosa and other subsidiaries under the Kuok Group had contributed provisions and packed food to charitable organisations. This latter part, on learning about the rising number of people in our community who are going hungry, and having exhausted whatever reserves due to the extended MCO, we are collaborating with groups of social workers and organisations under the Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards network,” said Ponderosa general manager Tan Kai Yang.
The food packs are being distributed to surrounding areas such as Taman Molek, Taman Desa Harmoni, Permas Jaya, Johor Jaya, Plentong and Masai.
“It is happiness for 7,500 hungry people. With the cooked food, poor families can now stretch the food rations that were given in earlier phases of the MCO and we can therefore move on to give rations to others we have not reached out to,” said James Ho, founder of Kebajikan Suria Johor Bahru.
Since 2014, IMSHA has been awarding deserving individuals and organisations who selflessly aid the Johorean community. Its network under the Social Hero Foundation includes 17 NGOs that have been working non-stop since the start of the MCO to support needy Johoreans.
Located in the suburb of Taman Molek about 20 minutes’ drive from the Johor Bahru city centre, Ponderosa is a full-facility golf club with a highly-rated parkland style course crafted by Max Wexler. The club resumed golfing operations on May 6 for members’ play and is now open to the public.
