Professional Golf Association of Malaysia tees off inaugural Satellite Tour with first three events this year

PGAM president CM Chong

The Professional Golf Association of Malaysia (PGAM) tees off its inaugural Satellite Tour on November 24 with the first 18-hole event at Danau Golf Club. This will be followed by two more legs at Impian Golf Club (December 8) and Seri Selangor Golf Club (December 29), with future events to be announced in due course.

“The aim of the PGAM Satellite Tour is to promote the growth and development of the game at all levels, from junior to professional. While the prize money is modest, the series provides a platform for competitive golfers to play in a tournament environment on a regular basis,” said PGAM president CM Chong.

Each Satellite Tour event will be played over 18 holes and is open to all PGAM member professionals, as well as amateurs aged 13 and above with USGA handicaps of seven and below. The entry fee is RM220 for PGAM members while amateurs have to pay RM350.

The professionals will compete for prize money determined by the number of participants and sponsorship in each leg, with the top six earning cash based on the following breakdown – winner 32%, runner-up – 20%, third – 15%, fourth – 11%, fifth – 8%, sixth – 5%. Non-cash prizes will be given to the top three amateurs.

Ladies will compete with the men but off different tees, while a senior division will be opened up when there are 10 or more senior PGAM participants.

“We aim to stage 18 one-day closed tournaments in our inaugural season, culminating in a Grand Final. There will be separate Order of Merits for the professionals and the amateurs, with the top 30 in each qualifying for the Grand Final,” explained Chong.
