Scottie Scheffler secured his victory at the 88th Masters Tournament with a final-round 68, maintaining a three-stroke lead early Sunday evening as he approached the par-3 16th hole at Augusta National.

At that instant, Scheffler held a three-stroke lead, with his ball poised just nine feet from the cup—a soon-to-be birdie for the expectant father. In the midst of the day’s warmth and amidst the gallery’s support, the world’s top player effectively secured his second Masters victory.

Making six birdies in a nine-hole stretch, Scheffler showcased the talent that propelled him to the world No. 1 ranking, avoiding the mistakes that plagued his contenders.

With this win, his second Masters victory, Scheffler joins Tiger Woods as the only other player to win two Green Jackets while holding the top ranking.

Ludvig Åberg of Sweden finished four strokes behind Scheffler in second place, followed by Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, and Tommy Fleetwood tied for third. Scheffler’s victory, coming in his fifth Masters’ appearance, solidifies his dominance in the sport.

Reflecting on his win, Scheffler expressed his excitement about becoming a father for the first time, indicating a shift in priorities while reaffirming his commitment to competitive golf.

“My priorities will change very soon,” he said, looking ahead to being a dad. “My son or daughter will now be the main priority, along with my wife, so golf will now be probably fourth in line. But I still love competing. I don’t plan on taking my eye off the ball anytime soon, that’s for sure.”

That is not welcome news for those trying to beat him.
