Selangor state government invests in golf via PKNS Golf Management Services Sdn Bhd

The Selangor state government has decided to invest in the sport of golf through the formation of the PKNS Golf Management Services Sdn Bhd, a full subsidiary of PKNS.

This unique initiative will allow the state to expand its reach and create new opportunities through golf.  Part of their investments will include golf club management, venturing into golf course design, golf academies for juniors, sponsorships and player management.

This was revealed by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at a ceremony to launch the logo of the PKNS Golf Management Services at Kelab Golf Seri Selangor.  Dato’ Seri Amirudin said that golf investment can be viewed through many aspects, including creating new jobs, proving opportunities for juniors and using existing golf courses to attract tourism.

“We want golf tournaments in Selangor to be of a high standard, whether amateur or professional events,” said Dato’ Seri Amirudin, with reference to the Selangor Masters that was held in KGSS last November.  It was part of the Asian Development Tour.  “This is indeed a new era for sports – and golf – in Selangor.”

The state’s keen  interest in golf investments is likely due to the commercial success of KGSS, which also celebrated its 25th anniversary recently.  From April 1st 2023, KGSS will come under the jurisdiction of the PKNS.

KGSS Chief Operating Officer Haji Zuber Idrus said that they will host the Selangor Masters again this year and hopefully bring it back into the Asian Tour like it was before.  He said he was thrilled that through the efforts of everyone involved, KGSS has been acknowledged as having one of the best courses in the country, with its fast greens and challenging layout.

Meanwhile, 39-year old lawyer Firdaus Ahmad recorded his third consecutive tournament victory when he finished tops in an event held in celebration of KGSS’s 25th anniversary.  He scored 40 stableford points, edging out Nasaruddin Bashir and Mohd Afzal Zubir who both returned 39 points.

Firdaus, a 5-handicapper, had earlier won his category in the Perodua National Amateur Series, qualifying for the national finals in Langkawi. Firdaus had also bagged the Seri Selangor Club Championship, finishing with a 13-over 157 over two days.
