The inaugural Sarawak International Senior Amateur Golf Championship (SISAGC) 2026 concluded at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) on Sunday, October 25, with 156 senior golfers from six countries competing in the two-day international tournament.

Organised by Borneo SuperAct Events, the championship attracted participants from Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia, competing in the men’s category for golfers aged 55 and above and the ladies’ category for those aged 50 and above.

Played over 36 holes in a net-over-gross stroke play format, the tournament saw Arni Hj Yahya of Miri claim the men’s overall nett title with a total of 126.

South Korea’s Lee Jong Ho emerged as the ladies’ overall nett champion after returning a nine-under-par nett total of 135, finishing ahead of 20 other competitors.

The championship also highlighted Sarawak’s potential as a destination for sports tourism, as players tackled the challenging course at Kelab Golf Sarawak.

Datuk Eddie Abdullah, founder and owner of Borneo SuperAct Events and organising chairman, said the tournament was conceived to support the Sarawak Government’s efforts to develop the high-value sports tourism sector.

He thanked the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak for its support, as well as Kelab Golf Sarawak for its role in hosting and delivering the event.

Eddie also acknowledged the contributions of the corporate sponsors, including Rimbunan Hijau, Sarawak Energy, TVS, Sarawak Water, Sarawak Cultural Village, LT Golf Shop, Grand Margherita Hotel, Riverside Majestic Hotel and KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital.

Sarawak’s caretaker Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, also commended the organisers for bringing an international senior amateur golf championship to Kuching.

He said senior golfers were an important tourism market, with the potential to extend their stays and explore Kuching’s cultural heritage, natural attractions and local cuisine.

Sarawak Seniors Society president Tan Sri Dr George Chan, who was the guest of honour, accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Wira Lorna Chan attended the prize presentation and closing ceremony.

In his closing remarks, Dr Chan said the championship had brought together golfers from six nations, offering an opportunity to build friendships and share experiences beyond the golf course.

He also encouraged the international participants to explore Kuching and to enjoy the city’s attractions and hospitality.

Following the successful staging of its inaugural edition, Borneo SuperAct Events confirmed that the Sarawak International Senior Amateur Golf Championship will return next year, with the aim of establishing Kuching as a regular stop on the Asian senior amateur golf circuit.
