The SJM Macao Open 2024 has once again cemented Macao’s standing as a premier international sporting destination, offering fans thrilling golf action alongside rich cultural experiences.

Taking place at the stunning Macau Golf & Country Club from 10 to 13 October 2024, the tournament saw Thailand’s Rattanon Wannasrichan deliver a commanding performance, claiming his second Asian Tour title with a 20-under-par total.

Wannasrichan set the pace from the start with a blistering nine-under-par 61 on the opening day and maintained his lead throughout the tournament. His subsequent rounds of 66, 67, and 66 secured him the coveted trophy after four days of world-class competition. His win was made even more special with his girlfriend, Manuschaya Zeemakorn, a Thai LPGA Tour player, serving as his caddie.

Reflecting on his victory, Wannasrichan expressed joy: I’m feeling so happy. I can’t describe how I feel besides just being so happy. I really want to thank myself for not giving up during the tough times and for the hard work this season. I wanted to win, but I also didn’t want to put too much pressure on myself.”

Finishing in second place was fellow Thai golfer Gunn Charoenkul, who ended the tournament at 18-under-par after a final round of 67. Though he couldn’t close the gap, Charoenkul was satisfied with his performance: “I’m very happy even though I couldn’t get the job done today. I guess it’s not my time, but I’m happy with how my putter saved me and gave me some breathing room.”

Thailand’s Poosit Supupramai delivered one of the standout performances of the final day, carding a solid six-under-par 64, moving him up to finish third. John Catlin, the Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, tied for fourth place after a five-under-par round, finishing at 15-under. He was joined in fourth by Miguel Tabuena, whose final-day eagle on the 18th capped a spectacular round of 63 on his birthday.

This year’s tournament held special significance as it coincided with the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR, making the 2024 edition even more meaningful. As the only international golf tournament in the Macao region with a history spanning over 20 years, the Macao Open is now firmly established as one of the most important tournaments on the Asian Tour.

In addition to the exciting on-course action, the tournament hosted various off-course activities that brought together local residents and international visitors. The Fan Village was a hub of excitement with interactive experiences, including putting and chipping challenges along with food and beverage offerings, ensuring a great time for families and spectators of all ages.

This year’s SJM Macao Open was not only a showcase of top-tier golfing talent but also a celebration of the region’s growing reputation as a sporting hub. With the tournament continuing to grow in stature, Luis Gomes, President of the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government, praised the event’s success: “The SJM Macao Open has once again achieved tremendous success, further solidifying Macao’s reputation as an international sports destination. It was wonderful to see so many young fans and families enjoying world-class golf. We hope that this event will inspire more young people to take up the sport and contribute to the growth of sports development in Macao.”

We are grateful for the ongoing support from SJM Resorts, the Sports Bureau of Macao, Macau Golf & Country Club, plus all our partners, and we look forward to working together next year.”
