SportExcel individual funding ceremony awards junior golfers; NSA 2020 commitments announced

A total of 41 young athletes, including 10 junior golfers, were recognised and awarded for their outstanding local and international achievements over the course of 2019 during the SportExcel Annual Individual Funding Ceremony.

Held on February 5 at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club’s Cenderawasih Banquet Hall, the event also announced the National Sports Associations’ (NSA) commitments for 2020.

SportExcel chairman Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaafar, during his speech, emphasised greatly the importance of international exposure for the development of the junior athletes under SportExcel’s charge, citing the leaps and bounds made by Dato’ Nicol David and cyclist Azizul Hasni as a result of their training overseas.

Also present at the ceremony was former track queen Datuk Marina Chin, who urged the junior athletes to set high aspirations, keep themselves motivated and continue to work hard as success is not something that can be achieved overnight.

Each of the 10 junior golfers, namely Ashley Goh, Ryan Lee Wei Jian, Lo Tien Ming, Foong Zi Yu, Ng Jing Xuen, Muhammad Adif Haikal Md Hazan, Andrew Yap Yung Cheng, Nur Diana Shafiqah Abdullah, Jayden Oh Zhen Poh and Mehekpreet Kaur Randhawa, received individual funding in recognition of their dedication and hard work in their pursuit of becoming world-class golfers.
