Junior golf in Malaysia swings back into competitive action next month when the SportExcel Junior Golf Circuit restarts with the second leg of the SportExcel-Milo-NSC Malaysian Junior Premier Elite Circuit.
The invitational event will be played at Impian Golf & Country Club in Kajang, Selangor, on August 17-18.
“We’re glad that we are finally able to resume the circuit after a five-month-plus hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Of course, each event will be conducted with strict safety and hygiene protocols in place following the guidelines issued by the Malaysian Golf Association and the Ministry of Youth & Sports,” said SportExcel executive director C. Sivanandan.
“I am sure that all our junior golfers are keen to get back into action after such a long break. However, I would like to remind everyone that safety is the first priority, so please adhere to the SOPs that we put in place,” he added.
Sivanandan noted that the ongoing travel restrictions forced them to cancel all international tournaments for 2020. “We had no choice but to cancel the 15th Ambank SportExcel International Junior Championship and the 2nd China Hainan International Junior Tour – Malaysia Leg, as well as all our reciprocal overseas tournaments. That’s a total of 10 events gone, depriving 40 to 50 juniors of much-needed international exposure.”
The revised 2020 SportExcel Junior Golf Circuit will see 11 events staged from August to December, followed by the UUMISM-SportExcel Junior Golf Tour Grand Finals at A’Famosa Golf Resort in Melaka next January 16-17.
Earlier this year, SportExcel signed a RM100,000 title sponsorship agreement with UUM International School Melaka (UUMISM) for the main junior tour.
