SportExcel completed the first season of the inaugural U.S. Kids Golf Malaysia Local Tour 2023, presented by Mazda at the prestigious A’Famosa Golf Resort, Alor Gajah, Melaka, on 2 and 3 December 2023.
It was an exciting two days for the 100 juniors fighting to be the first Malaysian Tour Champion in each age group, fourteen age groups in total (both boys and girls). The season consists of six one-day tournaments played in KGNS, Penang Golf Resort and A’Famosa Golf Resort.
Players accumulate points based on their finishing position, with the Top 5 receiving the All-Star Recognition, while the number one player is the Tour Champion. With the sixth tournament on 3 Dec 2023 offering double points to the players, it was tough to determine who would emerge as the eventual Tour Champion of each age group. A great benefit of being the Tour Champion is that their Priority Status level moves a level up, thus making it possible to gain an invitation from the U.S. Kids Golf World Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina, U.S.A. When they achieve the highest level in the Priority Status, an invitation to the World Championship is guaranteed.
The youngest Tour Champion is 6-year-old Muhammad Qal Farez Hilmi of Sepang, Selangor. His first time participating in a tournament, it is hoped that this would be a massive boost for the youngster to take his game to the next level. This could also spur more young juniors to have fun learning the lifelong game of golf and encourage family interaction that builds lasting memories.
Bermaz Motor Trading Sdn. Bhd., the distributor and retailer of new and pre-owned Mazda marque vehicles and provision of after-sales services and spare parts in Malaysia was instrumental in the success of the tournaments, providing SportExcel with the financial support to make this Local Tour a success.
The Local Tour started on a sound footing on 1 Dec 2023, where after the practice round, Tournament Director, Mr Allan Eng, gave a briefing on the Rules of Golf. Together with his team of Referees, Mr Lee Boon Seong, Mr Yap Sin Kee and Mr Alex Yeap, they did a “show and tell” at the Practice Green on the rules and some common mistakes made by players.
