The Srixon Malaysian Junior Development Tour was officiated today by the Deputy Minister of Youth & Sports YB Senator Dato’ Sri Ti Lian Ker, together with Mr Takuya Ono, Managing Director Dunlop Srixon Sports Asia Sdn Bhd, Mr Andrew Ng, Organising Chairman of the Tour, and Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) president Tan Sri Dato’ Setia Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor.
The tour is organised around existing junior programmes so that junior golfers can reap maximum benefit from all junior events in the country. The tour venues are spread throughout Malaysia, with the final leg in the central region. The tour’s first leg tees off at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf & Country Club from 27 to 29 September. The second leg will be played at the Royal Perak Golf Club from 18-20 October, while the third will be at the Palm Resort Golf & Country Club from 29 November to 1 December. The fourth and final leg will be played at the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club from 13-15 December.
According to Andrew Ng, the Organising Chairman of the Tour, the agreement with Srixon is to organise the tour for two years (2022 and 2023) with the plan to have an additional leg in East Malaysia.
This tour is different from the others in the country because juniors will be allowed to participate in Masterclass skills after their rounds on the first two days. The juniors will be provided with expert advice on tackling mental health, nutrition, and improving their social media skills. It will be a unique experience to prepare them for participation in national and international events.
The objectives of the tour are to host professional standard golfing events for junior golfers in Malaysia, to create elite and international standard event exposure for them, to provide an additional competitive platform for juniors to develop and improve their skills, to create more opportunities for them to accumulate World Amateur Golf Ranking points, assist them to develop skills beyond the course that will benefit them in their future golfing careers and to build a platform to engage with the junior golfers and their parents.
The tournaments, which will be played on stroke play format with gross and nett categories, will feature three age groups for boys and girls, including Group A (15-18), Group B (13-14) and Group C (10-13). Groups A and B will qualify for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.
The tour will use an Order of Merit points system over four events to decide the winners. In the case of ties after the four events, the winner will be decided based on a countback of the final rounds score.
Gross winners in all age groups will receive prizes from 1st to 5th place, while Nett winners in every category will receive prizes from 1st to 3rd place. Order of Merit Prizes will be awarded to Groups A & B, 1st to 3rd place at the final in December.
Junior golfers can register on a first-come-first-served basis via the Tournament Online Registration Form available at the Srixon Malaysian Junior Development Tour website: www.myjdtour.com.
Players in categories A & B will be charged an entry fee of RM300.00 per event, while category C will be charged RM250.00 per event.
All players who register for all four events will receive a personalised Srixon Ultralight Stand Bag (RM890.00), a Srixon Tour Umbrella (RM189.00), one dozen Srixon SoftFeel Golf Balls (RM119.00) and a Srixon Cap/Visor (RM89.00).
