Entries have now closed for the 2024 HSBC Women’s World Championship, with 15 out of the world’s top 20 and all the reigning major champions set to compete at Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore, from 29 February to 3 March 2024. The star-studded field includes 19 major champions, 43 LPGA winners with a combined total of 175 titles, seven former world No.1’s and 18 Solheim Cup players with 46 appearances between them.

The major champions in the field have a total of 28 titles between them and include all of last year’s major winners: Lilia Vu (The Chevron Championship and the AIG Women’s Open), Allisen Corpuz (U.S. Women’s Open), Ruoning Yin (KPMG Women’s PGA Championship), and Celine Boutier (The Amundi Evian Championship).

The HSBC Women’s World Championship boasts an international field with representation from 20 countries across the world. Widely recognised as Asia’s Major, seven out of the top 10 ranked players on the field hail from Asian descent. This includes the world’s top three as well as the fifth and sixth-ranked players, and joining them are South Korean-born world No. 7 Hyo Joo Kim, the champion of the 2021 edition, and world No.9 Lydia Ko, who recently clinched her 20th LPGA title at the first event of the season.

Two-time major champion Lydia Ko commented, “I can’t wait to be back at Sentosa this year, especially since it marks my tenth appearance at this event. The Asian Swing is one of my favourite times of the year; we always have the best time in Singapore, enjoying the restaurants and exploring the city. Starting the season with a win has given me a great boost for the year ahead, and winning this prestigious event would definitely be a meaningful achievement for me.”

Among this all-star field are three Chinese players who have graduated from the CGA-HSBC Junior Golf Programme: Yu Liu, a 28-year-old from Beijing; Xiyu Lin, the 11th-ranked player on the Rolex World Rankings; and Ruoning Yin, currently holding the second spot in the world rankings. Yin’s journey includes participation in 15 HSBC Junior Golf Programme events, with one victory and five runner-up finishes. Since turning professional, she has claimed three victories on the China LPGA Tour, secured two LPGA event wins, including a major title at the 2023 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Last year, she became only the second Chinese woman to claim the top ranking, following in the footsteps of Shanshan Feng, who reached it in 2017.

Chen Xing Tong, a 15-year-old Singaporean amateur, won the National Qualifier held at Sentosa last week, earning her chance to compete among the best of women’s golf. Throughout the two-day qualifying event, Chen consistently impressed, starting with a remarkable two-under 70 in the initial round, making her the sole golfer in the nine-player field to finish below par. Heading into the final round with a four-shot lead, she maintained her composure, carding a two-over 74 to clinch first place by a margin of four strokes.

In the coming weeks, five sponsor invitees will be announced, as well as the winners of the 2024 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, the 2024 LPGA Drive On Championship and the 2024 Honda LPGA Thailand, if not already qualified.

The 72-hole stroke play tournament will once again be played on the renowned Tanjong Course at Sentosa Golf Club, which hosts its 11th edition of the tournament. Celebrated for its commitment to sustainability initiatives in golf globally, Sentosa Golf Club proudly holds the titles for ‘World’s Best Golf Course,’ ‘Asia’s Best Golf Course,’ and ‘Singapore’s Best Golf Course’ as awarded at the 2023 World Golf Awards.
