The 20th Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) Games slated for July 11-19 in Johor has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision to defer the event to an as-yet unconfirmed new date was made following a meeting by the SUKMA Supreme Committee today, chaired by Youth & Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

The games would have involved around 30,000 participants, officials, volunteers and members of the media, with the golf event scheduled to take place at the Forest City Golf Resort in Gelang Patah.

An official statement from the Ministry of Youth & Sports noted that the decision was made in view of the “safety and health of athletes, coaches, officials and everyone involved with the event.”

The SUKMA Games is a biennial national level multi-sport event with contestants representing their home states.
