The Malaysian Golf Association’s Women in Golf Charter (WIGC) recently concluded its inaugural Swing for Pink Charity Drive at The Mines Resort & Golf Club. Eighty-four golfers took to the fairways in solidarity, united by a single purpose: to raise awareness and vital funds for the Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM) B40 Breast Cancer Diagnostic Fund.
Launched in November 2024, Swing for Pink marked MGA WIGC’s very first Corporate & Social Responsibility initiative. Built on the belief that golf can be a powerful platform for social change, the campaign was designed to reach far beyond the greens and touch the lives of women in need. Its mission was clear – to support underprivileged women from B40 communities by giving them access to essential breast cancer diagnostic services at PPUM, Malaysia’s leading teaching hospital.
Over the past year, the campaign unfolded through a series of meaningful initiatives. Two Breast Cancer Awareness & Wellness Talks were held – one at Regen Hospital in July and another at the Royal Selangor Golf Club in August. On July 25, MGA also organised a Community Golf Day at Kelab Golf Negara Subang, where breast cancer survivors were introduced to golf as part of their physical and mental recovery journey. These events combined fundraising with empowering education, urging more Malaysian women to take charge of their health through early detection and annual screening.
The charity tournament at The Mines brought these efforts to a resounding close. Thanks to the generosity of corporate sponsors, donors, and countless individuals, the Swing for Pink campaign raised RM211,049.40. The funds will directly enable PPUM to provide life-saving diagnostics – mammograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies – for B40 women who would otherwise face financial barriers to access.

Prof. Dr Nazirah Hasnan, Director of PPUM, expressed her gratitude, saying: “We are deeply grateful to MGA’s Women in Golf Charter for their unwavering commitment to women’s health. The Swing for Pink campaign has brought not only funding, but also a renewed spotlight on the importance of early detection. This fund will directly help us provide timely screening to women who need it most.”
The campaign drew overwhelming support from both corporate and individual contributors. Golf clubs also lent their support with complimentary vouchers, including Glenmarie Golf & Country Club, Templer Park Golf & Country Club, Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam, Horizon Hills Sdn Bhd, and The Mines Resort & Golf Club.

Dato’ Merina Gan, Chairman of the MGA Women in Golf Charter and Vice President of MGA, shared her appreciation: “I am deeply overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from all our partners, sponsors, friends, and strangers who believed in this mission. What started as a simple idea blossomed into a nationwide movement. I truly hope the funds raised will benefit the many women who walk through the doors of PPUM in fear but leave with a fighting chance. This is just the beginning – Swing for Pink will be the first of many initiatives championing women through the platform of golf.”
