Team Gavin Green holds a 2-point advantage over Team Danny Chia heading into the final day singles of the inaugural Albatross Cup at Seri Selangor Golf Club.

The two-day Ryder Cup-style match play contest delivered a captivating first day of action. Team Danny Chia edged ahead 3–2 in the morning fourball matches, showcasing a strong start. However, Team Gavin Green dominated the afternoon foursomes, securing a 4–1 session victory to take a 6–4 overall lead.

The Albatross Cup features two 12-man teams comprising Malaysia’s top golfing professionals, led by two iconic captains, Gavin Green and Danny Chia. Green, Malaysia’s current top-ranked golfer, leads his team against Chia, who was the nation’s leading golfer during the late 1990s and 2000s.

With no prize money at stake, the players are competing purely for pride and honour. Green emphasized that his team will give their all in the decisive singles matches, aiming to secure victory in the inaugural event.

“Anything can happen in the 12 singles matches. That’s the beauty of the match play format, more so at a tough and tricky golf course like Seri Selangor. We’ll keep our heads down and hopefully be able to hoist the trophy tomorrow,” said Green, winner of the 2017 Asian Tour Order of Merit.

Chia promised that his team will come out with all guns blazing in the singles.

“I’m confident that we will do well in the singles matches. We’ll go all out to put some blue on the leaderboard in the early matches and assert some pressure on Gavin and his players,” noted Chia, who was the first Malaysian to make the cut in a men’s Major at the 2010 Open Championship.

The first match will begin at 8.00am on Tuesday morning.

The Albatross Cup promises to be a historic event for Malaysian golf, bringing fans closer to the action and fostering camaraderie among the nation’s top professionals. Stay tuned for live updates and highlights from Seri Selangor Golf Club as the drama unfolds.
