Aloysa Atienza competing in the HSBC Women’s World Championship National Qualifying Tournament
Singapore amateur Chen Xing Tong is on the verge of securing a coveted spot in the 2024 edition of the HSBC Women’s World Championship after dominating the first round of the national qualifying tournament with an impressive four-shot lead (-2). Coming in behind Chen is fellow amateur Aloysa Atienza (+2), followed by five-time local qualifier Amanda Tan (+4).
Since the tournament was established in 2008, the event has consistently provided a platform for a local player to compete on the grand stage.
Reflecting on her performance, 15-year-old Chen said: “Today was mostly about just keeping the ball in play, getting on the green, and trying to have a chance for birdie. Luckily, my putter was pretty good today, so I was able to make a few putts and get an under-par score.”
Looking ahead to the final round tomorrow, the Singapore Sports School student added: “I want to try to be as consistent as today and get as many Greens in Regulation, and hopefully the ball will drop as well as it did today.”

Expressing her excitement at the prospect of competing alongside some of the world’s top players, such as Lilia Vu, Ruoning Yin, Jin Young Ko and Minjee Lee, in the upcoming HSBC Women’s World Championship, Chen stated: “It would be an honour to play with some of the best players in the world. It would be an amazing learning opportunity to get out there and experience how the pros play.”
The final round of the national qualifying tournament will take place tomorrow at Sentosa Golf Club. The tournament winner will earn a spot to participate in the HSBC Women’s World Championship, which takes place at Sentosa Golf Club from 29 February to 3 March 2024.
