Thai stars Kiradech Aphibarnrat and the Jutanugarn sisters, Ariya and Moriya, have tested positive for Covid-19 and are self-quarantining while they recover. All three golfers base themselves in Orlando, Florida.
Kiradech, the 2013 Maybank Malaysian Open winner, revealed on social media that he had felt unwell on Tuesday and underwent a Covid-19 test which turned out positive.
“On Tuesday I wasn’t feeling great so I took a home COVID-19 test and unfortunately I tested positive. I am now self-isolating and working on contact tracing with all those I have been in contact with. I am still experiencing some mild symptoms including fever and loss of taste so I am resting up at home in Orlando and will return to the Tour when I am back to full health.”
Similarly, former World No 1 Ariya announced that she and ‘Mo’ (Moriya) had tested positive earlier this week.
“Although we have been very cautious, unfortunately both Mo and I have tested positive for COVID-19. We are now self-isolating and working on contact tracing all those we have been in contact with. We both have mild symptoms but we are very disappointed to have to withdraw from the Pelican Women’s Championship. We will be isolating at home until it is safe to resume our schedule. We wish everyone the best of luck and look forward to when we can return to playing on Tour.”
Now competing on the PGA Tour, the 31-year-old Kiradech has four wins on the European Tour and three on the Asian Tour where he was the 2013 Order of Merit champion.
Ariya, 24, has won 10 times on the LPGA including two Majors while Moriya, who is two years older, has one LPGA title to her name.
