The taste of tradition at the Laksa…Mana festival

The tantalising aromas, bold flavours, and rich stories of Malaysia’s iconic laksa took centre stage at My Warisan: Laksa…Mana Festival Galore 2025. Held on 22 & 23 November at the Main Atrium of KLGCC Mall, the two-day celebration invited visitors to embark on a flavourful journey through the country’s diverse laksa traditions.

Organised by OHSOM TV, the festival was more than just a food showcase, it was a celebration of Malaysia’s multicultural identity, bringing communities together over taste, tradition, and storytelling. From the tangy, spiced broths of Penang Laksa to the sweet-sour harmony of Melaka Nyonya Laksa, visitors were treated to a feast for the senses. Regional favourites from Johor, Sarawak, Pangkor, and Selangor’s Punten with Sambal Ijo and Tat Bengkulu completed the culinary journey.

Hands-on experiences brought the festival to life: cooking demonstrations led by Malaysia’s top culinary experts including Professor Dr. Muhammad Shahrim, Chef Dato’ Ismail Ahmad, Chef Debbie Teoh, Chef Muluk, and Associate Professor Dr. Ahmad Esa Abdul Rahman, showcased traditional broth preparation, spice-blending techniques, and sustainable cooking practices. Guests had the chance to taste, learn, and even pick up skills to bring the nation’s culinary heritage into their own kitchens.

Aligned with MADANI values, UNESCO’s cultural preservation principles, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the festival highlighted food as a vehicle for community empowerment, sustainability, and cultural continuity. It also inspired the next generation of culinary custodians to appreciate, preserve, and innovate within Malaysia’s rich gastronomic traditions.

Supported by partners such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Department of National Heritage, Perbadanan Adat Melayu dan Warisan Negeri Sembilan (PADAT) and KLGCC Mall, the laksa festival reinforced the role of food as a bridge between generations, cultures and communities.

My Warisan: Laksa…Mana Festival Galore 2025 proved that heritage isn’t just history, it’s a living, breathing experience that can be tasted, shared, and celebrated, one bowl of laksa at a time.
