Tokyo Electron has signed a sponsorship agreement with Japanese professional golfer Hideki Matsuyama.

Matsuyama now plays mainly on the U.S. PGA Tour, where the world’s best players compete. He turned professional in Japan in 2013 and became the top money winner on the Japan Golf Tour in his rookie year, an unprecedented feat.

He began focusing on the PGA Tour in 2014, where he soon won his first title at the Memorial Tournament in May. In 2021, he won the Masters to become Japan’s first major champion in men’s golf. To date, he has 8 wins on the Japan Golf Tour and 11 wins on the PGA Tour under his belt, and he holds the record for most PGA Tour victories among Asian-born players.

In August 2024, he won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, another first for a Japanese male golfer. Matsuyama is undoubtedly one of the best athletes in the world and is highly regarded in Japan.

Aiming to win all four golf majors, a feat never before achieved by a Japanese player, Matsuyama approaches his challenges with an iron will to succeed while honing his superb skills through intense practice.

As Matsuyama’s world-leading performance in men’s golf has resonated with TEL, the company sought to support his future endeavours, resulting in this sponsorship agreement.

Toshiki Kowai, President of Tokyo Electron said: “At TEL, we admire his deep focus on refining his techniques and pushing the boundaries on a global scale, leading us into a future beyond imagination. We will share his forward-thinking ambition and fully support him with our world-class technology.”

Matsuyama added: “I am very pleased to have the support of Tokyo Electron, a world-class company, in the form of a sponsorship agreement. I left Japan years ago with a strong desire to grow as a global player, and have been challenging myself ever since.

“Likewise, Tokyo Electron continues to challenge itself to build the future of semiconductor manufacturing on a global scale. I am most inspired by the company’s challenges as I compete in tournaments worldwide. In 2025, I will continue to do my very best to be the world’s best player.

“It will be a great honour if, with the help of Tokyo Electron, I can give dreams, hopes, and inspiration to everyone around the world who supports me.”

As part of the sponsorship agreement, Matsuyama will wear the TEL logo on the collar of his shirt throughout the PGA Tour, beginning with The Sentry and the Sony Open in Hawaii in January 2025.
