Transview Golf takes Durian Runtuh sale to Facebook Live, aims to broaden online shopping presence

Frankie Choo, Director of Transview Golf

Transview Golf will break new ground when the retail chain takes its popular Durian Runtuh sale to social media via Facebook Live later this month.

Inaugurated in 2005, the Durian Runtuh sale is held yearly during the fasting month of Ramadan offering storewide discounts and special deals.

“While we have reopened our green grass retail outlets at golf clubs in states where the Conditional Movement Control Order has been implemented, large gatherings are still not allowed and that is why we are taking our Durian Runtuh sale to social media,” said Transview Golf director Frankie Choo.

“We are keeping our standalone stores closed for now as retail is traditionally slow during the fasting month of Ramadan,” he added, noting that golfers should check Transview’s Facebook page for updates on the actual date of the Durian Runtuh sale.

While Transview does not have its own e-commerce site, Choo noted that they are working on expanding their online presence through shopping portals, foreseeing that virtual retail could be a growing part of the new normal for golf.

“Online retail in golf will never be as big as essential products because golfers will always need to feel and test clubs before purchasing. However, we actually saw an increase in online sales of our soft goods, especially apparel, golf balls and other products such as rangefinders on LazMall before the Movement Control Order.

“We are going to expand our online presence to other shopping portals such as Mudah.my and Shopee, as well as increase the range of products available as we foresee this will be the trend for now until things get back to normal again,” he shared.

Choo feels that golfers will be wary of spending too much on hard goods even when golf resumes in full nationwide. “I think retail will not be as robust as before as people will be cautious. Most businesses will be slow and those who are employed may have had to take pay cuts. Consequently, that new driver or set of irons will be put on hold for now.”

Transview Golf has 26 retail stores across Malaysia, of which 18 are located at golf clubs, plus four additional outlets retailing RYZ and Huitieme lifestyle products, with a total workforce of 160.
